About
This site (motorblade.com) is a tribute to Motorblade Postering of Austin, Texas — the city’s longtime poster and flyer distribution service.
The Origin — Fritz Blaw, Early 1990s
Motorblade was founded by Frazier Peters “Fritz” Blaw in the early 1990s. Fritz covered Austin with flyers for theater and dance companies, bands, and unique art happenings — rolling between gigs by motorcycle and roller blades, which is where the name came from.
Over nearly three decades, Fritz built Motorblade into a 200-location route that became the de facto bulletin-board network for Austin’s music, theater, and arts scene. The Austin Chronicle profiled him repeatedly. As Fritz put it in 2012: “I’ve made it so that people in Austin expect up-to-date bulletin boards.”
The Handoff — July 2020
In April 2020 Fritz announced he was leaving Austin after 43 years to live with family in Philadelphia. He passed the torch to Ricardo Acevedo, a graphic designer and former punk-rock band-poster artist whose company RAworx Creative — run with his wife Susan Acevedo — took ownership that summer.
Fritz’s line on the vetting process, as quoted by Acevedo: “Fritz discovered that I’m weird enough to assume his mantle.”
What Motorblade Does Today
Motorblade hangs flyers, public-service posters, theater handbills, zines, and brochures along a legal route of 150+ locations across the greater Austin area — cafes, music stores, university zones, and select retail. The route reaches Slaughter to the south, Round Rock to the north, Lakeway/Cedar Park to the northwest, and Springdale to the east.
Distribution begins the first Monday after materials arrive, with 20+ locations covered each posting day. Motorblade does not wheat paste, does not organize street teams, and does not post on weekends, holidays, or in severe weather.
Notable Clients
Past and current clients include SXSW, The Mohawk, Antone’s, Stubbs, Cheer Up Charlies, C3 Events, The Long Center, The Paramount Theater, Austin FC, and Austin Reggae Fest — plus countless local bands, venues, and small businesses.
