Electric Motorcycle Buying Guide
Everything you need to know before buying your first electric motorcycle.
Range Reality
Manufacturer claims are highway range. Real-world: 70-80% of claimed range with mixed riding. A 200-mile rated bike gets 140-160 in practice. Plan charging stops accordingly.
Charging
Level 1 (household outlet): 8-16 hours. Level 2 (240V): 2-6 hours. DC Fast Charge (some bikes): 30-80 minutes to 80%. Home charging overnight is the standard for daily riders.
Total Cost of Ownership
Purchase + 5 years: Electric $22-28K total. Gas equivalent $18-22K purchase + $5-10K fuel/maintenance. Electric breaks even at year 3-4 and saves money after that.
